Happy New Year! 2015

2014, 1st semester in the NEW OES, was a time of creating a new normal.
We have learned our way around a bigger library, enjoyed more time in the library as library special classes increased from 30 min. to 50 min. for the 1st graders and 40 min. to 50 min. for the 2nd graders.

First graders are adjusting as we enjoy our time together in large group time and their independent time hunting for library books to enjoy, read and take AR quizzes.

Second graders have taken the center concept and enjoyed every minute... from the reading center to the iPad center, from the scavenger word hunt to the author center!

Amazingly, students come all day long to check out books!  We have approximately 300 students checking out books daily!

Hope this 2015 year continues to see students love books and reading!

First Week of School!

Well, we made it!
All students arrived, visited the library, and checked out their first book!

This was the first time that all 700+ students had walked into the OES Library.  Their expressions of excitement....'Oooooh' and 'WOW!' ....were so fun to see, as the OES Library is more than twice as big as their library from the year before.

We discussed the expectations (rules) of using a library and caring for library books, completed a Book Care Pledge sheet and checked out our first book!  1st and 2nd grade students shared their hugs and their compliments... 'I love library!'  It just melts this librarian's heart!

The funny for the week... Each student got an apple pie or cotton candy 'scratch and sniff' bookmark. As a little boy was leaving, smelling his bookmark he said "Ooh la la!"

Highlighted Book Titles: Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

Welcome to OES Library Blog ... Connect!

Let's stay connected and help your child grow in reading!  My desire is for you and me to tap into every possible venue to inspire, encourage all of us... parents, teachers, students... to wrap our hearts around books, characters, information.  All of our combined efforts will make our little citizens grow up to be wise, smart, and productive adult citizens.

This will be a place devoted to books... favorites, new, classics, etc.! So stay tuned for awesomeness!!
